Utility Construction and Installations
Servicing MS and AL for over 75 years.

Water - Sewer - Gas - Fire Sprinkler Systems

Whatever your needs may be, McElroy can supply you with the products and the capable manpower for just about any job you may need.

Potable Water

We can bring potable water right up to any new construction or existing structure. McElroy will provide the technical prowess so that: appropriate pressures and flow rates are achieved; water quality at the tap is not contaminated or affected by the local environment; the system from mains connection to tap avoids waste and leakage; the system is efficient, convenient, safe, reliable and has a long term working life.

Sewer

McElroy can assist your business with providing a general sewer plan which will help define the current service area, sewer basins, and existing infrastructure. They can also delineate the future sewer planning area, the projected service population, and resulting sewage flows; and then presents proposed improvements to upgrade existing facilities and provide sewer service to your location. Specific components of the plan include:

  • Service Area and System Characteristic
  • Planning Criteria
  • Sewer System Evaluation
  • Capital Improvement Program
  • Operations and Maintenance
  • Implementation

Wastewater Treatment Plants

McElroy can install a wide variety of commercial on site wastewater treatment plants for any large facility.  We are capable of installations, maintenance and/or repairs for any large facility.

Grease Interceptors

To ensure the proper disposal of animal fats and vegetable oils, and to prevent sewage back-ups, most, if not all, cities requires grease-generating establishments to correctly install, operate and maintain properly sized and designed grease interceptors. Grease interceptors are required for all commercial buildings with kitchen and/or cafeteria facilities. The sizing of the interceptor shall be in accordance with  the latest edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code recognized by the City. Approval of the interceptor sizing by the the proper building inspectors is required prior to installation. McElroy also provides grease remediation by offering a non-hazardous bacteria that can significantly reduce the amount of grease that must be processed.  For more information click here.

Storm Drains

McElroy can install and maintain any storm drain for your commercial property.  The City inspects storm water facilities to ensure they continue to function/comply with design and construction standards. Since owners of storm water facilities typically receive a discounted storm water utility fee, it is to the property owner's advantage to maintain them. Noncompliance could result in the owner losing this discount and/or being fined.

In accordance with Federal regulations, McElroy will insure that you are in compliance with municipal environmental codes dealing with the storm water pollution/illicit discharges to the City's surface and ground waters. Our staff members work with businesses in a cooperative effort to reduce pollution and bring their operations into compliance.

Our Storm water Utility installations:

  • ensure that public and private storm water systems are planned, developed and maintained to prevent flooding, protect water quality and preserve natural storm water systems;
  • monitors water quality and provides leadership and focus for community efforts working toward improved storm water management;
  • identifies needs for capital improvement of the storm water systems, prioritizes, selects, and constructs those improvements; and
  • ensures that City construction and maintenance projects are planned and implemented to cause as little short term and long term harm as possible to the environment.

Electrical

McElroy also offers an array of electrical services in conjunction with their various affiliates and/or associates.

Fire Sprinkler Systems

McElroy will install and maintain repairs on any type of fire sprinkler system your business may require.  McElroy will insure that you entire facility is up fire code and that your business, employees, and materials are always protected from fire. Fire sprinklers are widely recognized as the single most effective method for fighting the spread of fires in their early stages - before they can cause severe injury to people and damage to property. When one fire sprinkler head goes off to fight a fire the entire sprinkler system does NOT activate. Sprinklers react to temperatures in individual rooms. The chances of a fire sprinkler accidentally going off are extremely remote. Installation of fire sprinklers can provide discounts on insurance premiums.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, property damage in hotel fires was 78% less in structures with sprinklers than it was in structures without sprinklers during the years 1983-87. Nearly half of all hotels and motels, according to a 1988 survey by NFPA, have sprinkler systems.

NFPA has no record of a fire killing more than two people in a completely sprinklered building where the system was properly operating, except in an explosion or flash fire or where industrial fire brigade members or employees were killed during fire suppression operations.

Conclusion
The National Fire Protection Association outlines several major strategies that are key to reductions in fire losses and especially in home fire deaths, which are 78.3% of the total fire deaths. They are:

  • More, and more widespread, public fire safety education on how to prevent fires and how to avoid serious injury or death if fire occurs.

  • Residential fire safety initiatives remain the key to reductions in the overall fire death toll.

  • Wider use and proper maintenance of smoke detectors, coupled with practiced home escape plans.

  • Wider use of residential sprinklers.

  • Additional efforts to make home products more fire-safe, such as less fire-prone cigarettes and child-resistant lighters.

  • Addressing the special protection needs of high-risk groups, such as the young, older adults and the poor.

HVAC Systems

We offer a number of different cooling and heating systems and have the experience to do the installations, maintenance and/or repairs.

Heat Pumps

Repair,  replacement, installation and service is available for a number of different ands of heating, air conditioning, gas heaters, gas inserts and gas related products.  Please contact us at601-482-7117 for more information.

Backflow Preventers

Backflow, cross-connection and back-siphonage all mean the same thing: used water that has drained from your pipes is sucked back into the water system by a drop in water pressure. If this water is contaminated, it can cause serious health problems.

McElroy can provide Design, installation, maintenance and inspection for back flow preventers.  We can also set up a periodic maintenance and inspection schedule to ensure your compliance with the State Statutes.

Underground Conduit

We can install any number of different type of conduit that can be used to carry fiber optics, cable, electrical or any type utility that needs to be covered with conduit.

Many designers, installers, and maintainers of telecom networks are involved not only with the wiring inside a building, but also with connecting the structured wiring system to two or more separate buildings on a site. Any wiring external to the building is called outside plant cabling. A customer-owned outside plant cabling system can be defined as a telecommunications facility on the premises of some type of contiguous property that connects to the information and/or datacom system. This is a requirement for many large scale facilities, such as hospitals, universities, research centers and industrial plants. Outside plant wiring systems can support a wide variety of communication services. These include telephone and data transfer, live video, security, building automation control systems and any other low voltage circuitry.

You must install the outside plant cabling in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), utility franchise regulations and local building codes.

You should base any project of this type should on a 10-year planning cycle. The size, or capacity, of each cable run and the precise pathways you use are extremely important in determining the success of the project.

For example, in doing a layout of a campus outside plant system, consider the fact that, in the future, owners may sell portions of the property. Therefore, it may be necessary to obtain property easements. In addition, any site survey should observe if the cabling layout is going to cross a railroad track, any other utility company right-of-way, or some natural occurrence, such as a stream. Additionally, during the design stage, you may need to divide the property into sections, so you can select the proper wiring media for each section. Creating subdivisions and specifying certain ancillary hardware devices for each section (such as satellite dishes or antenna towers) may be necessary.

Other design factors include: maintaining the security of cable runs, providing alternate routing in case of disaster recovery, the location of local exchange carrier facilities, and the physical terrain of the campus. In many cases, extra pathways should be planned for maintenance purposes. It's usually necessary to check with local exchange carriers regarding their facilities within, or adjacent, to the campus.

Three pathways used in outside plant construction are aerial, underground conduit, and direct buried; of course, they may be used in any combination

If you are worried about digging and harming any existing water, sewer, gas, electric, cable, telephone or fiber optic lines, we provide a proven system which allows us to dig without harming any existing utility lines and that is by using Hydrovac Excavation.
